Small Business Trends Newsletter
What are Virtual Receptionists?

Virtual receptionist. You might've heard the term before, and it's not immediately clear what exactly they are or what purpose they serve. Are they robots? In the very simplest terms, virtual receptionists answer your phones remotely. But there's so, so much more. We're here to clear all of that up for you: we'll explain what a virtual receptionist is, what they can do for your business (a lot!), and why it's important that every phone call that comes in to your business gets answered.

Resumes Don't Tell the Whole Story: How a Job Application Fills in the Gaps for Smarter Hiring

According to a recent HRdirect Small Business Hiring Practices Survey, only 21% of small businesses require applicants to complete forms to get hired. Not having this essential part of your screening and hiring processes can be a tremendous shortcoming that hinders your success. Here's why: Slick resumes may immediately grab your attention, but these may not present the entire picture about your applicants.

To get around this — and obtain the information you want from a wide range of candidates — you need a legally sound job application. A thorough process captures the right information so you then can make smarter decisions and strengthen your overall hiring processes.

Here's Why Boston is an Ideal Place for Entrepreneurs and Startups

Newsletter | July 3, 2018

Small Business Trends Newsletter
A Guide to Boston Startups

In the past, Boston has been an underestimated player in the startup scene. However, it recently ranked first among the top 25 startup hubs in America, according to a report by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and startup incubator 1776. The findings are based on talent, specialization, capital, density, connectivity, and cultural statistics, among other data.

Not only is the city of Boston a startup hub, next-door neighbor Cambridge is thriving, thanks in part to the plethora of world-class universities located nearby. Facebook and Microsoft are just two of the most famous examples to come from the intellectual capital of the United States. That's one of the reasons tech leaders are taking notice of the area's impressive growth. Companies like Amazon and Twitter have opened headquarters on the East Coast or established offices in Boston.

In addition to high quality of life ratings and a welcoming regulatory environment for startups, Boston has a lot to offer. Because of critical factors like a collaborative community and innovative business concepts, its growth as a startup hub is expected to continue. There are many elements that make Boston an ideal place for entrepreneurs and startups.

Here are just a few.
