2015 Ford Mustang: First Look

Brawn, Beauty, Breeding For Ford's Global Future

The final version of the 2015 Ford Mustang is a beautifully sculpted vehicle worthy of the pony perched on its trapezoidal grille. It connects the past to the present and readies the Mustang for the next 50 years with three powertrains, an all-new integral-link independent rear suspension, and loads of driver-friendly features.

The best way to view any car is from a distance. Stand too close, and you'll miss its real impact. It's why Ford uses a secure courtyard to look at different versions of a car. Last June, after working on it for three years, its chief engineer finally saw the Mustang in the courtyard as it appears now.

It gave him goose bumps. From 50 feet, the 2015 Ford Mustang is stunning. It has the presence of a soldier at the ready—muscular, lean, and ready to attack. As you move closer, it remains just as impressive.

Designers were inspired by the 1965, 1967, and 1969 Mustangs, but created a modern vehicle. Less evolution, more revolution. "We pulled out all the stops," said Joel Piaskowski, director of exterior design.

2015 Hyundai Genesis Prototype First Drive

2015 Hyundai Genesis Quick Drive

Exodus: The next chapter for Korea's Lexus

That title line may seem like a cheap Old Testament gag, but there's rich double-entendre. Hyundai's gen-2 2015 Hyundai Genesis, you see, represents a big departure from the days when the Korean value-brand timidly begged for a place at the big-boy table. When the plain-but-vaguely-ritzy Concept Genesis first appeared at the Detroit show in 2007, the company prayed its rear-drive newbie's premium-class features, refinement, and discounted price might lure a few Mercedes/BMW/Lexus buyers who didn't care that snooty valets would never park their car in front. The Genesis never hit the original Lexus LS' numbers, but sales growth has been steady and the car paved the way for the swankier Equus.

Some may actually buy this car just for its looks, but to earn the business of more objective buyers, the engineering team expended biblical efforts on the car's ride and handling development, optimizing everything from aerodynamics, to engine mounts, to body structure.
