Exodus: The next chapter for Korea's Lexus

That title line may seem like a cheap Old Testament gag, but there's rich double-entendre. Hyundai's gen-2 2015 Hyundai Genesis, you see, represents a big departure from the days when the Korean value-brand timidly begged for a place at the big-boy table. When the plain-but-vaguely-ritzy Concept Genesis first appeared at the Detroit show in 2007, the company prayed its rear-drive newbie's premium-class features, refinement, and discounted price might lure a few Mercedes/BMW/Lexus buyers who didn't care that snooty valets would never park their car in front. The Genesis never hit the original Lexus LS' numbers, but sales growth has been steady and the car paved the way for the swankier Equus.

Some may actually buy this car just for its looks, but to earn the business of more objective buyers, the engineering team expended biblical efforts on the car's ride and handling development, optimizing everything from aerodynamics, to engine mounts, to body structure.

Do You Know Your Independent Contractors From Your Employees?

States are cracking down on companies that misclassify their employees as independent contractors, Bloomberg reports. Labeling someone an independent contractor means companies don't have to withhold or pay income taxes, Social Security and Medicare taxes or unemployment taxes. But revenue-hungry states are looking more closely into worker classification in an effort to get tax payments from employers.

First Look: 2015 Chevrolet Colorado

Chevy Breathes Life Into The Midsize Truck Segment

The Chevrolet press conference made it crystal clear what the Colorado is going up against.

A video showed the new Colorado passing a Nissan Frontier, then a Toyota Tacoma. Other visuals in the video were more telling: there was a shot of a ram (the animal) and a ranger (the person), and as the Colorado passed by, the forest ranger's hat was left in the truck's dust. It makes sense for Chevrolet to position the Colorado as a competitor for non-turbo V-6-powered full-size trucks, as was strongly implied in the press conference.

Instead of seeing this as a rehashed truck from another market, though, it's more accurate to look at it as a scaled-down Silverado, as few of the chassis components are shared with the global truck.

The frame is about 40 percent lighter than the global Colorado's frame; the new unit is fully boxed and uses liberal amounts of high-strength steel. Comparing crew cab to crew cab, the Colorado is 900 pounds lighter, 5 inches narrower, 3 inches lower, and 16 inches shorter than the Silverado.

The Colorado will use a coilover front and leaf-spring rear, and Duralife disc brakes with ABS. It will have EPS and an impressive 41-foot turning radius.
